They abandon what they’re doing after a bit of frustration.

It’s easy to fall for this trap for a simple reason: the plateau.

Here’s how it works.

A guy in his 20s starts going to the gym.

After a month of training three days a week, he doesn’t see results.

The plateau is like a wall you hit after the initial burst of motivation—like a line that rises fast at first and then goes flat, no matter what you do.

If you’re not aware of this wall, you’ll hit it and quit.

But the only thing you often need to do is keep going without changing anything for a while.

Push through, and you’ll start growing again.

So if you feel you’re not growing, don’t change paths or quit. Keep going.

One anecdote I like: water freezes at 0°C—not at 10, not at 5, not at 1, but at zero.

It’s the same with progress: you may be getting closer to the threshold without noticing your development.
